Your resume needs to target the right skills to land you that interview. While the technical skills for your resume must be chosen based on the role you are applying for, there are certain soft skills that every job requires. Luckily, what an employer is specifically looking for is not a secret. They lay it out very clearly in the job description when they advertise for the role. Here is a list of good skills to put on a resume.

  1. Identify the skills the employer is looking for

It does feel like a lot of work to tailor your resume for every job you apply to. It is not. All it needs is to highlight the skills the employer has set out in the job description. The priority of each skill is the order in which it is appears. This is a good way to match the skills needed to your resume. Make sure they all appear in your resume in the same order of priority. The advantage is that it will pass an ATS (Applicant Tracking System) automated scan and reach a human recruiter.

Justify these skills by providing evidence. After all, the recruiter needs to be impressed by your skills and nothing does this better than facts. Here is an employer resume skill example and how you can address it –

Good communication skills ensure that you can work within your team as well as with cross-teams to easily communicate requirements. While it is easier to demonstrate your communication skills in an interview, your resume can highlight it in a more subtle way. A resume skills example for communication could be to write – I have the proven ability to engage, persuade and liaise not only with my colleagues and senior executives but also with external stakeholders.
